What is the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination?

The Grade 5 Scholarship Examination (ශිෂ්යත්ව විභාගය) is a national competitive exam held annually for Grade 5 students in Sri Lanka. Top-scoring students receive scholarships and priority admission to selected national schools.

What subjects are in the Grade 5 Scholarship exam?

Paper I covers Mathematics and First Language (Sinhala or Tamil). Paper II covers Environmental Activities, General Knowledge, and Creativity. Total duration is 2 hours 30 minutes.

How many marks are needed to pass the Scholarship exam?

There is no fixed pass mark — scholarships are awarded to the highest scorers in each district. The competition is based on ranking, so the cutoff varies annually depending on the overall performance of candidates in each district.

At what age do students sit the Scholarship exam?

Students who are 10 years old on the 1st of January of the year the examination is held are eligible to sit the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.

What past papers are available for the Scholarship exam?

Grade 5 Scholarship past papers from 2005 onwards are available on Ape Danuma in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums, including answer papers for most years.
